DGS SYMONS PLACE
REVITALIZATION
AN EXTENSION TO HISTORY .
A NEW ADVENTURE OF SYMONS PLACE
Located within Diocesan Girls’ School, an elite school in Hong Kong, the development site builds on a covered hall that has long served as a vital venue for school events and the annual Mini Bazaar. With evolving contemporary needs and the celebration of the 165th anniversary of DGS, Symons Place now calls for revitalization.
The new Symons Place is reimagined with a Knowledge Chamber as its core, radiating outward to a series of “time capsules” that celebrate 165 years of the school’s heritage. The Knowledge Chamber is composed of “books” made from perforated aluminium cladding, symbolizing a new era of sustainability‑focused knowledge. The perforations, together with low‑speed fans, draw in surrounding breezes to cool Symons Place, creating an ideal microclimate for school events and gatherings.
The undulating form of time capsules gradually unfolds the history of DGS, curate key moments, artifacts, and memories, inviting students and visitors to engage with the school’s past while projecting towards its future.
The open space is reorganized into a sequence of pavilions that frame views, define gathering pockets, and encourage a strong sense of community and engagement. Together, the Knowledge Chamber, time capsules, and pavilions transform Symons Place into a living archive of DGS, where everyday school life and commemorative events intersect in a dynamic, celebratory landscape.
