INTANGIBLE CITY

"DEN-CITY UTILIZES THE INTERPLAY OF LIGHT AND SHADOW TO SYMBOLICALLY DEPICT THE HIGH POPULATION DENSITY IN HONG KONG'S URBAN LANDSCAPE"

Den-city is inspired by the high density of Hong Kong city fabric. While this is the beauty of Hong Kong as a metropolis, this also greatly affect the privacy and living condition of Hong Kong people.  Den-city, a moving art installation, aims to explore the complex relationship between high-density urban environments and the lived experiences of its inhabitants in Hong Kong

Den-city is an installation that uses infinite reflections of light, and shadow to recreate the urban fabric of Hong Kong within a confined space as a metaphor for the high dense scenario in the urban fabric. Through the journey of moving through the "Den-City", one is given an alternative perspective to appreciate the beauty of Hong Kong as an outsider as well as to re-think the conditions of living in this world-famous metropolis

The installation is designed to allow visitors to physically navigate through the recreated urban environment. The pattern changes through the development of Hong Kong, including 5 significant stages: Squatter Hut, Tong Lau, Public Housing, Private Housing and Commercial Building
